The Oak Cycle

In 2022 I was selected to be an Artist-in-Residence at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, MA, alongside a cohort of 6 other talented artists in various media including painting, dance, sculpture, and photography.

Mount Auburn Cemetery, a National Historic Landmark, was founded in 1831. It is the first landscaped cemetery in the United States. Beyond functioning as a site of burial and cremation, the cemetery has been celebrated for over 200 years as a horticultural Eden that is one of the most beautiful public spaces in the greater Boston area.

As part of my residency I created The Oak Cycle, a long form audio-visual work inspired by the incredible oak tree collection at the cemetery, containing over 450 trees of numerous species. Together with my collaborator Rafi Sofer (audio, video, and co-production), I set out to create a meditative suite that moves between the "real" and the imaginary, while organically incorporating the natural sounds of the site into my music.
